Lawyer A. Twillie II — Trial Attorney

I’m Lawyer.
Yes, That’s My Real Name.

I’m a trial attorney, and depending on what brought you here today, I might also be the person who helps you get into law school, get through it, get hired as a paralegal, or just get connected to a lawyer who can actually help. Here’s the whole story.

The Name

Yes. My Name Is Actually Lawyer.

“Yes. My name is actually Lawyer.”

Lawyer A. Twillie II is my legal name. It’s my father’s name too. He’s eighty now, and he carried it before I did. Further back than that, it belonged to a man born enslaved in the American South, who became known in his community for settling disputes fairly, and was given the name for exactly that reason. More than a hundred years later, it’s mine.

The Road Wasn’t Straight.

Before becoming a public figure, there was public housing.

01

Section 8. Free lunch. Very little extra.

Section 8 housing. Free lunch at school. I didn’t know anything different until I was an adult, living on my own for the first time.

02

Worked full-time. Put himself through law school.

Small and mid-sized defense firms would hire me as a paralegal. Nobody would take a flier on me as a law clerk. I went to law school part-time, worked full-time, and raised a toddler at the same time.

03

Paralegal. Lawyer. Trial attorney.

I earned my paralegal certificate from St. Joseph’s College in 2002, and my law degree from Western New England College School of Law, now Western New England University School of Law, in 2008. After passing the bar, I worked as an attorney for a couple of plaintiff personal injury firms. It didn’t take long to know I wanted something different.

04

Built the firm. Built the life.

Those firms felt transactional. I wanted something relationship-based, where the connection mattered as much as the case. That’s the firm I built, and it’s still the goal today. It isn’t always easy, but it stays in focus. The firm has grown to serve hundreds, if not thousands, of clients. Lawyer the Lawyer is the other side of that same idea. A chance for people to get to know the person, not just the lawyer.

Before any of that, I was just a kid in Section 8 housing who had no idea any of this was coming.

I don’t have a story about knowing I’d be a lawyer someday. I had a name I didn’t choose, a household that didn’t have much extra, and no real model for what “trial attorney” even meant. Everything after this page happened because I kept showing up to the next thing, not because I had a plan for all of it.

Where To Start

A Few Ways I Might Be Useful to You

01

Thinking about a career in law?

Whether you want to be a paralegal, a lawyer, or you’re not sure which — I built a paralegal certificate program myself, and I’ll tell you honestly what the path looks like from someone who’s walked it without the traditional head start.

02

Need a lawyer, right now?

I’ll help you get connected to the right kind of help for your situation — that’s what “I Need a Lawyer” is for.

03

Thinking about law school?

I went part-time, worked full-time, and raised a toddler while I did it. I have real answers, not just encouragement.

04

Looking for information and community?

This is where the podcast, the community content, and everything I share that isn’t a sales pitch lives.

Already Work In Law?

If you’re an experienced paralegal or attorney looking for a firm that actually invests in its people, I’m always looking for good talent — this is where that conversation starts.

Which Brings Me to You

Whatever brought you to this page — a case, a career decision, a class you’re about to start, or just curiosity about the guy with the unusual name — I’d rather you know where I actually came from than just what I do.
